Borobadur

One of the highlights of our trip to Indonesia was a visit to the Borobadur complex. The place is huge with wonderful view of the fields around the temple. We watched the jungle wake up around us.

Cleaning Temple

This is in a temple in Chiang Mai. We both enjoyed the slower pace of life it has to offer. This picture is at a temple near closing time for tourists and the monks are cleaning up.

Batavia

The old area of Jakarta is like a natural theme park for the Indonesians. There are colourful bicycles to rent to ride around the square... and the colourful bicycles come with matching colourful hats.

The Golden Temples of Thailand

During one of our winter vacations to Thailand we went to the cave temple near Hua Hin. Getting there was a bit of a struggle because I was walking with a cane at the time. But I was determined to see this magnificent sight. Walking through the caves to the final cave with the temple made me feel like Indiana Jones. Well worth it.

Paper Lanterns in Tainan

I love the sight of paper lanterns and the soft light that they throw off on the surrounding area. This is a store in Tainan with a variety of paper and cloth lanterns.

Omi-Hachiman

One of my fondest memories is relaxing at a small coffee shop in Omi-Hachiman. The shop was in an old house overlooking the canal that the town is famous for. It was a hot day but inside, n the second floor, there was a gentle breeze. We were the only customers there at that time and we stayed a couple of hours.

Jumbo Ferry

We use the Jumbo Ferry from Kobe to Shodoshima on those days when we visit the island. Nobody seems to like the cool fresh air outside on a lovely day. I certainly don't mind.

Taiwan trip

We traveled to Taiwan many times and we both love the city of Tainan. But one of our most memorable side trips was to an old Japanese village in the mountains that used to mine coal. The view of the distant ocean is fantastic and the street food was pretty good. This is a picture of one of the temples near the town.
